ABOUT
Born in 1969 and growing up during second-wave feminism, my first "feminist manifesto" exposure came when some (saintly) person gifted me a Free To Be You and Me album sometime around 1972. I wore that record out as I rode my spring-loaded pony like my life depended on getting somewhere quick. I am forever grateful for the songs on that record that were imbedded into my psyche at such a young age. I am sure the concepts of fairness and equity helped me shape a world for myself that didn't match my upbringing.
Growing up in a bible-is-literal family with misogynist-leaning parents and later working as a graphic artist for years, I often combine elements of evangelical christianity, sexism, misogyny and pop iconagraphy in my work.
My personal background combined with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis at the age of 24 influences my focus on the (still, sometimes deeply -held) cultural belief that disability, disease and illness are punishments from god. Feminism and disability also often intersect in my work.
