Popular Misogyny - Issue #1

I worked on this (on and off) for just about a year. Fiddling. Drafting. Discarding. Starting over. Twenty dwelled upon pages. It's finally done. There are 36 ~FREE~ copies going out into the world.

Let's take a look!

The cover is a digitally altered version of my "Amalgamation 2016" analog collage. Mary teases with her "Trump That Bitch" emblazoned chest. Lets just go right to the centerfold... (Depending on what you may have heard, this is what people used to do, you know.)

It is an actual screen print. And yes, I folded it in half and stapled it. I put a gold sticker on it too! (Yeah, so who cares if your prints are suppose to be perfect. The republic is melting... so whatever.)

But the best part, by far is it GLOWS IN THE DARK. (The overarching theme is of Issue #1 is "DO NOT OBEY IN ADVANCE". It is "Rule #1" from Timothy Snyder's Book, "On Tyranny" and I am obsessed with the idea of it. Better than "resistance", which definitely has its place, it is steeped in the power of existing as a free person in a free country.)

I have become obsessed with the idea of propaganda. I have watched hours of archived lectures by professors and experts in Nazism and specifically how propaganda was employed. I have read court docs, white papers, books.. I have read about women artists and how they used hidden messages in their artwork. (See From Penelope to Pussyhats essay.) I am also intrigued and a bit horrified by steganography.

I have searched the internet and captured Trump rally displays of misogyny. I have read too much news about local governments making laws that discriminate and do harm to women, minorities and LGBTQ people. Americans. American white men seeking to control and in doing so leveling great harm to a large portion of the populace.

The inside back cover has a special present tucked away in an envelope. And the knowledge page is a partial bibliography of sorts of information I used or thought about while making this zine.

The "Actual News" is covered. As is the "Traitor Times" news. And because it is all too much, I attached envelopes with cards of hope, warnings and advice.
